{"id":52535,"date":"2020-07-25T19:05:51","date_gmt":"2020-07-26T01:05:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/state-issues-high-flood-warning-for-san-juan-mountains\/"},"modified":"2020-07-26T01:05:51","modified_gmt":"2020-07-26T01:05:51","slug":"state-issues-high-flood-warning-for-san-juan-mountains","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/state-issues-high-flood-warning-for-san-juan-mountains\/","title":{"rendered":"State issues high flood warning for San Juan Mountains"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=d043a587-020c-4e37-bc89-ac5e2a1f8a51&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1542\" height=\"1028\" alt=\"The Colorado Water Conservation Board warned of heavy rains with the potential for floods and mudslides in Southwest Colorado, particularly in burn scar areas.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">The Colorado Water Conservation Board warned of heavy rains with the potential for floods and mudslides in Southwest Colorado, particularly in burn scar areas.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">JERRY McBRIDE\/Durango Herald<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>The Colorado Water Conservation Board posted a high flood warning for the San Juan Mountains on Twitter early Saturday, indicating an increased risk for mud and debris slides.<\/p>\n<p>Several county agencies have deployed equipment and responders to major burn scar areas so they can respond quickly in case of a mud or debris slide because of the heavy rains expected across Southwest Colorado for the next week.<\/p>\n<p>The major burn scars agencies are closely monitoring include the 2018 416 Fire area north of Durango and the recent East Canyon Fire area near Mancos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve pre-positioned equipment in the Cherry Creek area,\u201d said Butch Knowlton, director of the La Plata County Office of Emergency Management. \u201cThe heavy rains could produce a lot of debris and flood water.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The agencies include the La Plata County Search and Rescue team, La Plata County Road and Bridge and the La Plata County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>The Colorado government warned the county agencies that these heavy rains could bring potential flooding on mountain roads, as well as mudslides and falling debris.
