Ray Shupe said about 40 to 50 people participated in the march Sunday on Main Avenue when the incident occurred.<\/p>\n<p>According to investigators, the Farmington man, identified as Wesley Devilbiss, was eating at the outdoor patio section at Tequila\u2019s Mexican Restaurant in the 900 block of Main Avenue when he began confronting people in the march.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=7b4d9f2d-844d-4e72-bac0-8c569dd1ee02&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1333\" alt=\"Devilbiss\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Devilbiss<\/span><span class=\"credit\">du1-i-syn<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Shupe said Devilbiss shouted, \u201cThis is America\u201d and told people in the group to \u201cgo home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A female in the group started singing, and \u201cthat infuriated him,\u201d Shupe said. Devilbiss came around the outside patio area, got in her face and ripped a mask off the woman\u2019s face, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Another woman tried to break up the fight and Devilbiss allegedly threw her to the ground. Calls reporting the incident started to come into Durango police around 6:30 p.m., Shupe said.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, officers were just going to write Devilbiss a ticket.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut he continued to be belligerent and we took him into custody,\u201d Shupe said. \u201cHe was intoxicated and didn\u2019t want to mellow out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Devilbiss was being held on suspicion of disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.
