{"id":51820,"date":"2020-09-01T17:13:51","date_gmt":"2020-09-01T23:13:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/irish-embassy-pub-in-durango-will-close-doors-labor-day\/"},"modified":"2020-09-01T23:13:51","modified_gmt":"2020-09-01T23:13:51","slug":"irish-embassy-pub-in-durango-will-close-doors-labor-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/irish-embassy-pub-in-durango-will-close-doors-labor-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Irish Embassy Pub in Durango will close doors Labor Day"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=fc78af42-460b-4fdf-adc5-5d3f7fd5138c&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1542\" height=\"955\" alt=\"The Irish Embassy Pub, which held Sunday jam sessions, has decided to close at the end of the day Monday, after COVID-19 restrictions forced it to close for two months and then led to slow sales since it reopened in May.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">The Irish Embassy Pub, which held Sunday jam sessions, has decided to close at the end of the day Monday, after COVID-19 restrictions forced it to close for two months and then led to slow sales since it reopened in May.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Durango Herald file<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>The Irish Embassy Pub will close its doors at the end of the day Labor Day because of slow sales since it reopened in May after a two-month closure caused by COVID-19 restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter 12 years, we\u2019re really sad to see it come to this, but we\u2019ve been struggling since reopening in May and haven\u2019t been able to get ahead,\u201d said manager Sarah Donaldson in a news release.<\/p>\n<p>The pub will open at 11 a.m. daily through Monday, Labor Day, with a few house bands scheduled to play during the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Sean McCarthy, a musician who plays the bodhr\u00e1n, an Irish drum, had set up a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/savetheirishembassy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Save the Irish Embassy Pub Facebook Page<\/a> seeking to raise $50,000 to save the establishment, which opened in downtown Durango in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>As of Tuesday, about $10,000 had been raised.<\/p>\n<p>Donaldson said, \u201cWe\u2019re hoping that we\u2019ll be able to reopen somewhere else in a different capacity, once things start to become a little more normal.
