After near-record highs on Labor Day weekend, a two-day storm brought snow to the mountains across Colorado.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Jerry McBride\/Durango Herald<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>          <!-- gallery:eb210d0c-456b-447f-99d1-078fee2bc1e8 --><\/p>\n<p>The unusual early September storm that put a frosting on the peaks of the San Juan Mountains won\u2019t have a second punch \u2013 with above-normal highs expected to return to Southwest Colorado by Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn Durango, Friday\u2019s high will be about 70, on Saturday it will be in the mid-70s, and Sunday it will be in the high 70s. By midweek, you\u2019ll be in the mid-80s with above-average highs,\u201d said Matthew Aleska, meteorologist with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/gjt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Weather Service in Grand Junction<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A high-pressure system is expected to settle over the Four Corners on Friday afternoon \u2013 leading to a dry weekend and sunny, clear skies through at least Wednesday and probably longer.<\/p>\n<p>The next chance of precipitation might come toward the end of next week, but computer weather models currently disagree about whether the storm will hit Southwest Colorado, Aleska said.<\/p>\n<p>The multiday storm system that moved through Colorado came from Canada and migrated south as the jet stream sank south. The storm was more typical of late September conditions in Colorado, Aleska said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou see this in the transition from summer to winter, but it\u2019s a couple of weeks early,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=e31008f4-07d8-485c-bda5-2f22d3056453&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" alt=\"Jonathan Anderson of Durango makes his way up Red Mountain Pass on Thursday with temperatures around 30 degrees. Lake City reported 2 inches. The storm was stronger farther east in the state with Alamosa reporting 14 inches.<\/p>\n<p>Snotel readings from the San Juan Mountains reported snowfall ranging from 6 inches to a foot, Aleska said.<\/p>\n<p>At Durango-La Plata County Airport, only 0.45 of an inch of rain over 48 hours was reported from the storm as of Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Jim Andrus, a Cortez weather watcher, reported 0.93 of an inch of rain Tuesday and Wednesday at his house. Andrus said average annual rainfall for the end of September in Cortez is 9.33 inches.
