{"id":51565,"date":"2020-09-16T01:06:30","date_gmt":"2020-09-16T07:06:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/new-durango-city-manager-to-begin-listening-tour\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T03:56:32","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T09:56:32","slug":"new-durango-city-manager-to-begin-listening-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/new-durango-city-manager-to-begin-listening-tour\/","title":{"rendered":"New Durango city manager to begin listening tour"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Jose Madrigal, the new city manager, will begin his tenure leading Durango with a listening tour \u2013 an effort to hear from residents and city employees about what city government is doing well, where it needs to improve and where it needs to be more active.<\/p>\n<p>Madrigal, who spent his first day on the job working remotely Monday, said he plans to be in town by Sept. 21.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first order of business is to meet everyone on staff. I\u2019ve had some virtual meetings, but it\u2019s important to meet in person, and to meet the community,\u201d Madrigal said, addressing the monthly La Plata County Economic Development Alliance investors meeting held Tuesday on Zoom.<\/p>\n<p>Three qualities of high-performing organizations \u2013 resiliency, strategic planning and establishing a clear mission statement and values \u2013 will be areas he will examine early upon his arrival, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Resiliency and sustainability are especially critical given the scope of the COVID-19 pandemic, he said.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=88d85b86-aac5-4035-921b-c645764e1da0&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"417\" height=\"625\" alt=\"Madrigal\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Madrigal<\/span><span class=\"credit\">du1-i-syn<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>A hot real estate market in Durango is something especially beneficial, he said. He noted many corporate leaders are looking to move from urban areas, and Durango is among rural locales benefiting from that trend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany cities I have worked with in my consultancy aren\u2019t experiencing any kind of growth during the pandemic.
