But this year\u2019s performance will look a little different.<\/p>\n<p>Middle school students filmed performances of five musical numbers, as well as an act called \u201cScenes from a Quarantine,\u201d written by comedian and playwright Lindsay Price.<\/p>\n<p>From Oct. 22-24, friends and family can stream the show online at 7 p.m. after purchasing tickets at mchsdrama.booktix.com for $10 per computer, not per person.<\/p>\n<p>The show will be available for streaming on those dates only.<\/p>\n<p>Directors Angela Gabardi and Marla Sitton rehearsed with students outside and via Zoom leading up to Saturday, when the 48 students involved divided up by grade level to film for 11 hours outside to put together virtual show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe made our own movie,\u201d Sitton said.<\/p>\n<p>Montezuma-Cortez High School theater teacher Nicholaus Sandner helped with the filming \u2013 his brother brought his drone to get wide shots of the students, Gabardi said.<\/p>\n<p>The musical numbers include \u201cWe Go Together\u201d from \u201cGrease,\u201d \u201cDefying Gravity\u201d from \u201cWicked,\u201d \u201cHakuna Matata\u201d from \u201cThe Lion King,\u201d \u201cSeasons of Love\u201d from \u201cRent\u201d and \u201cYou Will be Found\u201d from \u201cDear Evan Hansen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe picked songs that brought the kids together, that are positive,\u201d Gabardi said.<\/p>\n<p>The virtual show will have two song performances before the act and three song performances afterward.<\/p>\n<p>The show \u201cScenes from a Quarantine\u201d is \u201cvery, very relevant,\u201d Gabardi said. \u201cThere were a lot of laughs from the students during rehearsals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=d567242f-415f-4c90-95e0-973498da7979&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" alt=\"A group of Montezuma-Cortez Middle School students record a scene for the fall virtual performance in the baseball dugout.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">A group of Montezuma-Cortez Middle School students record a scene for the fall virtual performance in the baseball dugout.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Courtesy of Angela Gabardi<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>But students had to adjust to performing without an audience reaction, Sitton said.<\/p>\n<p>The theater and choral departments are a tight community, and meeting in passing between grades was also difficult for the students to adjust to, Gabardi said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey came together the best way they could, but we\u2019re hoping to bring that community back together,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, sixth grade performers will walk a red carpet into the middle school gym, where they will view the screening of their performance.
