The quarantine is a precautionary measure while San Juan Basin Public Health investigates the case.

“SJBPH has not yet confirmed a positive test result for the person in question,” said Claire Ninde, SJBPH spokeswoman. “We are still looking into this and are in communication with ISD.”

Because the school has divided students into cohorts, only 17 students were affected by the quarantine.

Of those, 11 were studying in-person, and six were already learning remotely, Fuschetto said.

The last day the student had contact with others at the school was Oct. 21, so the cohort’s two-week quarantine is scheduled to last until Nov. 5. The Ignacio Elementary School administration will also send updates to parents and guardians of the quarantined students.

The district is also distributing information to its community about how to recognize signs of COVID-19 versus the flu, common cold, asthma and other illnesses that share symptoms.

“We’ll just keep monitoring all the other students,” Fuschetto said. “We have to be alert if something happens in any of the other classes.”

Community members should practice precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as cases rise in Colorado and holidays approach, Ninde said.

SJBPH urged people to:

Stay at home as much as possible.Practice social distancing (at least 6 feet away from another person).Wear face coverings when in public (a mask order is still in effect in indoor public spaces).Practice good hygiene (washing hands, covering coughs and sneezes, etc.).Get tested if you have symptoms or believe you’ve been exposed through a known contact or community interaction.

smullane@durangoherald.com

Stay at home as much as possible.Practice social distancing (at least 6 feet away from another person).Wear face coverings when in public (a mask order is still in effect in indoor public spaces).Practice good hygiene (washing hands, covering coughs and sneezes, etc.).Get tested if you have symptoms or believe you’ve been exposed through a known contact or community interaction.

[28,4854,2765,29,4691

post-50740","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-headlines","tag-ignacio-elementary-school","tag-ignacio-school-district-11-jt","tag-newsletter","tag-pine-river-times-news
["GET
