{"id":50440,"date":"2020-11-13T20:29:01","date_gmt":"2020-11-14T03:29:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/mark-redwine-trial-rescheduled-but-pandemic-remains-a-concern\/"},"modified":"2020-11-14T03:29:01","modified_gmt":"2020-11-14T03:29:01","slug":"mark-redwine-trial-rescheduled-but-pandemic-remains-a-concern","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/mark-redwine-trial-rescheduled-but-pandemic-remains-a-concern\/","title":{"rendered":"Mark Redwine trial rescheduled, but pandemic remains a concern"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=b5db2b58-3b09-42c8-815c-a7a93a630cce&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"950\" height=\"1205\" alt=\"Mark Redwine\u2019s trial was rescheduled for Jan. 25, but concerns were raised Friday about whether the COVID-19 pandemic will further impact proceedings.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Mark Redwine\u2019s trial was rescheduled for Jan. 25, but concerns were raised Friday about whether the COVID-19 pandemic will further impact proceedings.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Jerry McBride\/Durango Herald file<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>The trial for Mark Redwine was rescheduled for the end of January, but it is anyone\u2019s guess if it will successfully happen then.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith what\u2019s going on nationally, statewide and locally (with the COVID-19 pandemic), I\u2019m not sure Jan. 25 is a realistic date,\u201d said District Judge Jeffrey Wilson. \u201cBut we can shoot for it and we\u2019ll see what happens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The trial for Redwine, accused of killing his 13-year-old son, Dylan, in 2012, has been postponed and delayed a number of times since he was arrested in July 2017.<\/p>\n<p>In the most recent attempt, which began Oct. 29, Redwine\u2019s trial was making headway when a few days in, during the jury selection process, Wilson temporarily suspended proceedings after he experienced mild COVID-19 symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>Wilson\u2019s tests came back negative, but then Redwine\u2019s defense attorneys said multiple members of their team were showing COVID-19 symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>Redwine\u2019s public defenders argued they were forced to close their offices and quarantine for up to 14 days, which could delay the end of the trial to as late as the end of December.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, <a href=\"https:\/\/durangoherald.com\/articles\/353215-mistrial-declared-in-mark-redwine-trial\">Wilson declared a mistrial Monday, effectively canceling it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear if there were any positive COVID-19 cases among the defense; results were supposed to be available Sunday.
