In this file photo from June 2020, Bryan Yearout, co-owner of the springs, talks about construction progress of the hot springs, which are undergoing a major renovation.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Jerry McBride\/Durango Herald file<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>A 5-year-old boy drowned Sunday night at the Durango Hot Springs, said Bryan Yearout, co-owner of the springs north of Durango.<\/p>\n<p>The incident occurred about 6:10 p.m. in the large swimming pool, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Details of the incident were being pieced together Sunday night. Yearout said footage from security cameras will be reviewed to help understand what happened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt this point in time, we have no reason to believe there is anything but accidental with the drowning,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>A staff member who is a trained EMS worker administered CPR until paramedics arrived, he said. EMS then took over, and the father accompanied the child in the ambulance to the hospital, Yearout said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was hope when he left the facility that EMS was going to be able to get a recovery \u2014 revive him \u2014 but he was pronounced dead, I guess, at the hospital,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The identity of the child and the family\u2019s hometown were not disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>Karola Hanks, fire marshal with the Durango Fire Protection District, confirmed paramedics received a call at 6:14 p.m. about a 5-year-old boy who was not conscious and not breathing.
