{"id":49007,"date":"2021-01-27T01:13:44","date_gmt":"2021-01-27T08:13:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/fedex-truck-crashes-into-colorado-river-i-70-delays-expected\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T03:45:46","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T09:45:46","slug":"fedex-truck-crashes-into-colorado-river-i-70-delays-expected","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/fedex-truck-crashes-into-colorado-river-i-70-delays-expected\/","title":{"rendered":"FedEx truck crashes into Colorado River; I-70 delays expected"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=fe3e733d-5d80-43cf-9d9e-4680f43dda50&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1090\" alt=\"Colorado State Patrol&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;A FedEx truck and trailers will be recovered from the Colorado River on Wednesday, causing delays on Interstate 70 between Rifle and Glenwood Springs.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Colorado State Patrol&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;A FedEx truck and trailers will be recovered from the Colorado River on Wednesday, causing delays on Interstate 70 between Rifle and Glenwood Springs.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">du1-i-syn<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>The Colorado Department of Transportation advises drivers on Interstate 70 to expect \u201csignificant delays\u201d Wednesday between Rifle and Glenwood Springs as crews pull a FedEx semitrailer from the Colorado River.<\/p>\n<p>Delays could extend into Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are alerting drivers to significant delays expected tomorrow (Jan. 27) for eastbound I-70 traffic between Rifle and Glenwood Springs due to a vehicle recovery,\u201d CDOT spokeswoman Elise Thatcher said in a news release Tuesday. \u201cMotorists must plan for major impacts, expected to begin at 9 a.m. and lasting until dark.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOverwidth\u201d vehicles will be required to use an alternate route, Thatcher said, and drivers might face a closure of eastbound lanes as crews remove the two trailers from the river.<\/p>\n<p>Updates will be posted to <a href=\"https:\/\/cotrip.org\/home.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">COtrip.org<\/a> and CDOT\u2019s Twitter page.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cWe are anticipating recovery work may need to resume on Thursday in order to complete the job,\u201d Thatcher said, which would delay eastbound traffic going into Glenwood Springs.<\/p>\n<p>Crews will attempt to remove the FedEx tractor and two trailers, which crashed Sunday just west of Glenwood Springs.
