{"id":48757,"date":"2021-02-04T09:21:57","date_gmt":"2021-02-04T16:21:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/red-mountain-pass-reopens-after-avalanche-mitigation-work\/"},"modified":"2021-02-04T16:21:57","modified_gmt":"2021-02-04T16:21:57","slug":"red-mountain-pass-reopens-after-avalanche-mitigation-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/red-mountain-pass-reopens-after-avalanche-mitigation-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Mountain Pass reopens after avalanche mitigation work"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=74b17071-b372-4147-8f43-dad39b933642&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1540\" height=\"964\" alt=\"\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">du1-i-syn<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Red Mountain Pass reopened Thursday afternoon after Colorado Department of Transportation crews completed avalanche mitigation work.<\/p>\n<p>CDOT closed the highway between mile markers 71 and 92, between the towns of Silverton and Ouray, on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is going to be a rather lengthy closure,\u201d CDOT spokeswoman Lisa Schwantes said Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Schwantes said more than a foot of snow was received in an area known as the Gorge, just south of Ouray near the Bear Creek Trail and the snowshed over the highway.<\/p>\n<p>CDOT crews initially had to wait for the fog and clouds to lift to begin avalanche mitigation.
