{"id":48669,"date":"2021-02-09T15:54:53","date_gmt":"2021-02-09T22:54:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/in-effort-to-diversify-economy-san-juan-county-names-film-manager\/"},"modified":"2021-02-09T22:54:53","modified_gmt":"2021-02-09T22:54:53","slug":"in-effort-to-diversify-economy-san-juan-county-names-film-manager","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/in-effort-to-diversify-economy-san-juan-county-names-film-manager\/","title":{"rendered":"In effort to diversify economy, San Juan County names film manager"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>FARMINGTON \u2013 Some San Juan County employees have been given additional responsibilities, including the county\u2019s spokesman, Devin Neeley, who will serve as film manager.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=9a0fb833-347d-45c0-974a-2b12b563d558&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1600\" height=\"2000\" alt=\"Devin Neeley has been named film manager for San Juan County.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Devin Neeley has been named film manager for San Juan County.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Courtesy of Devin Neeley<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>\u201cThe expansion of the film industry is a priority to San Juan County and it is important to have a staff member dedicated to facilitating film projects in the area,\u201d said County Manager Mike Stark, in an email to <em>The Durango Herald<\/em>. \u201cThis is an important step toward diversifying our economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neeley said Monday he will market the area to production companies and coordinate with those interested in working in the area and who want to use county facilities like the Totah Theater.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe County Commission has already shown a commitment to economic diversification to include the film industry with the investment into the Totah Theater, as has the city of Farmington,\u201d Neeley said Monday. \u201cWe anticipate additional work in that realm, and hope that I\u2019ll be staying busy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Productions in San Juan County are eligible for an additional 5% \u201cOut of Zone\u201d tax credit, on top of New Mexico\u2019s already competitive incentives, Neeley said. New Mexico offers up to a 35% tax credit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince the State of New Mexico is incentivizing productions, and San Juan County has already seen moderate film activity, the addition of Totah Studios and backlot to the area will only serve to increase activity in this economic sector,\u201d Stark said in his email.<\/p>\n<p>Farmington has seen increased involvement in the film industry over the last several years, which has included grants and money awarded to the county.<\/p>\n<p>The county was able to secure a grant in 2019 and in 2020 totaling $1.5 million to be used to \u201cplan, design, construct, acquire, equip, expand and improve film studio facilities in San Juan County.\u201d That money is dedicated to Totah Theater renovations and to create a backlot for film production.<\/p>\n<p>Farmington has already been host to several movies, such as \u201cTransformers\u201d (2007), \u201cThe Lone Ranger\u201d (2012), \u201cA Million Ways to Die in the West\u201d (2013) and \u201cJumanji: The Next Level\u201d (2019).<\/p>\n<p>At a county meeting, Stark joked, \u201cIf you hear us refer to Devin as \u2018Hollywood\u2019 it\u2019s not a jab, it\u2019s actually part of his new duties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another staff change involved Lisa Gomez, who will become the new community health and services director at the Mental Health Resource Center where she will provide different resources for that position.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe thought it was the right time to not only do that, but to provide some supervisorial and manager oversight of the Behavioral Health Services program,\u201d Stark said. \u201cAnd that assistance is much welcomed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stark added that the change will allow the county to follow through with health initiatives with San Juan Regional Medical Center, Presbyterian Medical Services and others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re in the mode of operation where we\u2019re trying to do more with less, or in some cases, do more with the same,\u201d Stark said.<\/p>\n<p><em class=\"mwc_shirttail\"><a href=\"mailto:mmitchell@durangoherald.com\">mmitchell@durangoherald.com<\/a> <\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>will market Farmington area to production companies<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":48670,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[],"tags":[799,2661,28,138,443],"naviga_topic":[],"class_list":["post-48669","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-farmington","tag-film-festival","tag-headlines","tag-new-mexico","tag-san-juan-county-new-mexico"],"acf":[],"author_name":"dh_admin","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/48669","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=48669"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/48669\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/48670"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=48669"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=48669"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=48669"},{"taxonomy":"naviga_topic","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/naviga_topic?post=48669"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
