Michelle Lujan Grisham signed a bill that will waive annual liquor license fees.<\/p>\n<p>The bill, Senate Bill 2, waives the next annual fee for renewed liquor licenses and for all new licenses issued this year, according to a release from the governor\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLicense fees can range as high as several thousand dollars annually,\u201d a news release said. \u201cIt is estimated the waivers will save businesses in New Mexico roughly $3.5 million in total.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scott Darnell, Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce senior adviser for policy, planning and operations, said many of the restaurants and bars that would normally sell alcohol haven\u2019t been able to do so much over the last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s one of many ways that we can help businesses in this particular sector,\u201d Darnell said. \u201cThey are the hardest hit sector in the state. They have the most complicated and challenging comeback route as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For those reasons, Darnell said it \u201cjust makes sense\u201d that this bill would go through.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is a good move,\u201d said Farmington Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Jamie Church. \u201cOur liquor laws in New Mexico are very prohibitive as far as new businesses getting liquor licenses.
