{"id":47830,"date":"2021-03-22T21:08:21","date_gmt":"2021-03-23T03:08:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/keep-your-umbrellas-and-gloves-close-at-hand\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T03:40:24","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T09:40:24","slug":"keep-your-umbrellas-and-gloves-close-at-hand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/keep-your-umbrellas-and-gloves-close-at-hand\/","title":{"rendered":"Keep your umbrellas and gloves close at hand"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=2a2ed64f-1c4f-4863-9600-2e625dcd8507&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1542\" height=\"1028\" alt=\"Blustery weather with snow up high and rain and a rain-snow mix down low is expected in Southwest Colorado through Friday.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Blustery weather with snow up high and rain and a rain-snow mix down low is expected in Southwest Colorado through Friday.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Durango Herald file<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Bouts of rain, rain mixed with snow and snow are in the forecast for lower elevations of Southwest Colorado through Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Higher elevations of the San Juan Mountains can expect from 2 to 5 inches of snow from isolated, individual bands of precipitation expected to move through Southwest Colorado before clearing Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Favored peaks above timberline could receive as much as 8 inches from the strongest cells, said Dennis Phillips, a senior meteorologist with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/gjt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Weather Service in Grand Junction<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll have a few more systems coming through mid-week and toward the end of the week,\u201d he said. \u201cSo the pattern is staying active and temperatures probably just below normal as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been seeing it snow all the way down to the base of the mountains, but not much sticks lower down. With the sun high this time of year, it melts pretty quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Significant accumulations might be seen at elevations above 10,000 feet, he said.<\/p>\n<p>The next wave of precipitation expected to move into the Four Corners should be late Monday night or early Tuesday and extend through Wednesday.
