Farmington Municipal Schools did not immediately respond to a request seeking comment.

Farmington Municipal Schools sent the release Friday saying that Superintendent Dr. Eugene Schmidt made the decision to switch voluntarily.

The school did not reach the state threshold to trigger a mandatory closing. That threshold is four positive rapid responses in 14 days, according to the Public Education Department. A rapid response is one or more cases reported in a single day of a person being infectious while on campus, along with any positive cases with a testing day up to one day after the reported cases.

According to the release, remote learning is anticipated to last through at least April 28, with the intent of returning to in-person, at-school learning on April 29. However, those students who are already learning in a remote setting will be able to continue as planned for the rest of the school year.

For information about meals during remote learning, including free breakfast and lunches, visit https://district.fms.k12.nm.us/return_to_learn_2020/student_meals.

mmitchell@durangoherald.com

[799,28,138,29,443,180

post-47306","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-farmington","tag-headlines","tag-new-mexico","tag-newsletter","tag-san-juan-county-new-mexico","tag-schools
["GET
