{"id":47019,"date":"2021-05-04T00:30:46","date_gmt":"2021-05-04T06:30:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/mancos-teacher-arrested-on-suspicion-of-sexual-assault-of-student\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T03:36:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T09:36:11","slug":"mancos-teacher-arrested-on-suspicion-of-sexual-assault-of-student","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/mancos-teacher-arrested-on-suspicion-of-sexual-assault-of-student\/","title":{"rendered":"Mancos teacher arrested on suspicion of sexual assault of student"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=aef7a647-a9c5-40dc-bd55-9a68c5d43796&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1333\" alt=\"The Mancos Marshal\u2019s Office on Monday arrested 28-year-old Armando Lee-Martinez, accusing him of four sex-related felonies.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">The Mancos Marshal\u2019s Office on Monday arrested 28-year-old Armando Lee-Martinez, accusing him of four sex-related felonies.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Mancos Marshal\u2019s Office<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>A Mancos High School teacher was arrested Monday afternoon on suspicion of sexually assaulting a student.<\/p>\n<p>Armando Lee-Martinez, 28, was taken into custody by the Mancos Marshal\u2019s Office after an investigation that began April 14.<\/p>\n<p>According to a news release from Mancos Marshal Justen Goodall, the investigation began after allegations of a \u201cteacher and student relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Goodall, the charges in the arrest warrant include:<\/p>\n<p><em class=\"mwc_body_bullet\">Sex assault on a child by a person in a position of trust as part of a pattern of abuse, a Class 3 felony.<\/em><em class=\"mwc_body_bullet\">Sex assault on a child victim age 15-17 by a person in a position of trust, a Class 4 felony.<\/em><em class=\"mwc_body_bullet\">Sexual exploitation of children, induce or entice, a Class 3 felony.<\/em><em class=\"mwc_body_bullet\">Tampering with physical evidence, a Class 6 felony.<\/em>Mancos Superintendent Brian Hanson told <em>The Journal <\/em>that he would release a statement to parents Tuesday morning with guidance on how to explain the situation to their children.<\/p>\n<p>Hanson confirmed that Lee-Martinez was in his first year as the school\u2019s Spanish teacher for students in grades nine through 12.<\/p>\n<p>Lee-Martinez is a graduate of Mancos High School who also had a college degree and previous teaching experience, according to Hanson.<\/p>\n<p>Upon hearing that Lee-Martinez was under investigation, Hanson told <em>The Journal <\/em>that administrative steps were immediately taken to ensure the safety of the alleged victim.<\/p>\n<p>According to 22nd Judicial District Attorney Matt Margeson, a bond hearing for Lee-Martinez likely will be held Tuesday afternoon.
