Nowlin announced that Elizabeth Mee, who attends Mancos High School, and Samantha Minor, who attends Dolores High School, are this year\u2019s recipients of the Montezuma County Sheriff\u2019s Office scholarship award. It was a tie for both of these high school senior applicants.<\/p>\n<p>Montezuma County Sheriff\u2019s Office offered a scholarship award of $1,000 to each these applicants this year to pay for their educational expenses for the 2021-22 academic year.<\/p>\n<p>A citizens\u2019 committee selected the winner. The committee made selections based on criteria including leadership, merit, character, involvement, purpose and need. Applicants were required to be full-time, legal Colorado residents who planned to attend a Colorado university, college or trade school.<\/p>\n<p>The County Sheriffs of Colorado offered a $500 scholarship to Mee in addition to the Montezuma County Sheriff\u2019s Office matching that scholarship amount. The County Sheriffs of Colorado do this for Montezuma County every other year.<\/p>\n<p>Money for the program were generated from the sheriff, members of the Montezuma County Sheriff\u2019s Office and a variety of events.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Montezuma County Sheriff Steven D.
