According to Chapman, the foundation created the reduced-fee adoption event so that there would be an \u201cimmediate impact\u201d on pet homelessness.<\/p>\n<p>Empty the Shelters, made possible through the BISSELL Pet Foundation, makes adoption affordable for those looking to adopt, and reimburses shelters for every pet adopted during the event to help cover costs associated with spay\/neuter, microchipping, vaccination and other things the animals might need.<\/p>\n<p>Stacie Voss, animal welfare director at the shelter, said the shelter and animals love the adoption events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a chance to show off our great pets to the community and get people excited about pet adoption,\u201d Voss said. \u201cWe have a lot of great animals come through our doors that just need a second chance and a loving home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=52474410-ddee-5621-b232-6c725ac4a2e8&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1333\" alt=\"Lucky, a dog with three legs, is up for adoption at the Empty the Shelters event at the Farmington Regional Animal Shelter.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Lucky, a dog with three legs, is up for adoption at the Empty the Shelters event at the Farmington Regional Animal Shelter.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Farmington Regional Animal Shelter<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>One of the shelter dogs up for adoption is Lucky, a tri-pod, or three-legged dog. Chapman said Lucky was brought into the shelter with a \u201cseverely broken foot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt looked like he may have been stepped on by a horse or something else really heavy,\u201d Chapman said. \u201cThe shelter ended up amputating the leg and now he is doing really well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=f922631c-9921-5dfa-86ba-a8492e969992&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" alt=\"Lucky, a dog with three legs, is up for adoption at the Empty the Shelters event at the Farmington Regional Animal Shelter.
