Fiesta Theatre in Cortez will likely reopen in June.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel,\u201d said Allen Theatres President Russell Allen.<\/p>\n

A couple of challenges remain, however.<\/p>\n

The theater needs to hire a new manager, and \u201ctheatrical-only\u201d films are in short supply.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur product to put on screen is pretty thin,\u201d Allen said.<\/p>\n

That might change on Memorial Day weekend, when Disney\u2019s \u201cCruella\u201d and \u201cA Quiet Place Part II\u201d are set to premiere.<\/p>\n

The Cortez theater shut down in March 2020 amid the coronavirus. It reopened late last summer but shut down again after a few weeks.<\/p>\n

Allen Theatres has reopened a location in Durango and Farmington.<\/p>\n

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis<\/a> on Friday followed guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which loosened indoor mask-wearing recommendations<\/a> for those who have been fully vaccinated.<\/p>\n

Polis added that businesses may require patrons to wear masks or provide proof of full vaccination.<\/p>\n

Allen intends to follow the rules of local jurisdictions when it comes to reopening the theaters and having \u201ccommonsense\u201d protocols such as sneeze guards and thorough cleaning routines.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy the end of June it looks like there probably won\u2019t be anything happening more with this COVID thing,\u201d Allen said. \u201cI\u2019m very happy to see that coming to an end, and maybe we can get back to our lives again after this close to 18-month period of madness.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hiring a new manager remains the theater\u2019s biggest hurdle. It\u2019s a problem the theater has not had in years past.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t have anybody to run the theater at this moment in time,\u201d Allen said.<\/p>\n

Pi\u00f1on Project to host movies outdoors<\/div>\n

For those interested in outdoors viewing, the Pi\u00f1on Project will host children\u2019s movies once a month in Veterans Park from May through August .<\/p>\n

The free movies start at 7:30 p.m. Viewers are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets or sleeping bags.<\/p>\n

The films to be shown are as follows:<\/p>\n
