He fell 1,000 feet off the southwest ridge.<\/p>\n<p>Rescue team Capt. Ruth Stewart told the <em id=\"emphasis-6edd3295f1655e6ca3e499c159f4767e\">Plaindealer<\/em> the experienced climber was reported overdue by his family and a search began Friday evening. A plane spotted the body Saturday morning, and Montrose Helitack conducted the recovery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur condolences to the family and friends of the fallen hiker,\u201d the Ouray Mountain Rescue Team said in a Facebook post. \u201cAnd many thanks to the agencies who assisted in this complex mission.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Agencies involved in the effort included Ouray Mountain Rescue, Olathe Spray Service for aerial reconnaissance, Ridgway Fire Protection District, Montrose Helitack and Colorado Search and Rescue Association.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a id=\"link-399d9160d6edce6da9338fd1c0ccbb60\" target=\"_blank\">Telluride Mountain Club<\/a>, the Southwest Ridge route on Sneffels is more difficult than the standard Lavender Couloir route.<\/p>\n<div class=\"naviga-element naviga-subheadline1\">Sangre de Cristo fatality<\/div>\n<p>On June 19, a climber died from a fall while climbing Pico Aislado, a 13,612-foot peak in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, southeast of Crestone, according to a <a id=\"link-a0450b2a11c2fe55ccb5c4adb10853e3\" target=\"_blank\">Saguache County Search and Rescue Facebook <\/a> post June 24.<\/p>\n<p>The caller reported his climbing partner had fallen several hundred feet from the summit ridge down the east face.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=6a3de2c6-6bbe-5027-ada1-286cb9874122&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"720\" height=\"540\" alt=\"Pico Aislado is a 13,612-foot peak in the Sangre de Cristos Mountains.
