{"id":45787,"date":"2021-07-15T01:26:00","date_gmt":"2021-07-15T07:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/albuquerque-man-dies-in-officer-involved-shooting-east-of-shiprock\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T03:27:22","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T09:27:22","slug":"albuquerque-man-dies-in-officer-involved-shooting-east-of-shiprock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/albuquerque-man-dies-in-officer-involved-shooting-east-of-shiprock\/","title":{"rendered":"Albuquerque man dies in officer-involved shooting east of Shiprock"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=b96ab533-b506-573d-9757-7a7d14d4b89c&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"640\" height=\"479\" alt=\"Thomas\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Thomas<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>The San Juan County Sheriff\u2019s Office in New Mexico shot and killed a 36-year-old Albuquerque man Sunday during a vehicle pursuit that started on the Navajo Nation and ended east of Shiprock.<\/p>\n<p>Shawn Thomas is suspected of brandishing a firearm about 1:25 p.m. at the Speedway gas station at U.S. highways 64 and 491, near Shiprock, according to a news release issued Wednesday by the Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas left the gas station in a blue Toyota Corolla, and the Navajo Police Department gave chase. The vehicle traveled east on Highway 64 and eventually left the Navajo Nation, at which point Sheriff\u2019s Office deputies intercepted the vehicle, according to the release.<\/p>\n<p>Deputies successfully deployed stop sticks that deflated two tires.
