A wildfire on the Lower Dolores Canyon rim has grown to between 6 and 10 acres, said Derek Padilla, Dolores District Ranger for the San Juan National Forest.<\/p>\n

The Willow Fire is burning on a private inholding within the national forest. It is 3 miles west of Salter Y and north of the Ferris Canyon area in Dolores County.<\/p>\n

Federal and state ground crews are responding, along with local agencies, Padilla said.<\/p>\n

The strategy is full suppression. Four single-engine air tankers and one helicopter are working the fire. The cause was undetermined.<\/p>\n

Dolores County has issued an evacuation notice for Forest Road 521A and the area around and north of Ferris Reservoir.<\/p>\n

The Peeled Pine Fire on the Lower Dolores River west of Dove Creek has burned on a tenth of an acre. It was discovered Aug. 2, and was started by lightning. The fire is burning in a deep canyon and is being monitored, Padilla said.<\/p>\n
