rare event, and the Cortez Retail Enhancement Association and city of Cortez weren\u2019t going to let the opportunity to celebrate slip away.<\/p>\n<p>CREA, a not-for-profit established to enhance Cortez\u2019s retail sphere, planned a day centered around fun, supporting local businesses and getting out into the community.<\/p>\n<p>The day\u2019s events have been in the works for a few months, said CREA Executive Director AJ Dillon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy goal was to get people to shop locally and support local businesses,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She said she hopes the day instilled in people a sense of pride in the city.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Mike Lavey even issued a proclamation Aug. 10 to make the day official \u2014 and to urge citizens to visit local restaurants and retailers.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" from 98.7 KRTZ, Coldstone ice cream, popcorn and giveaways.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" president Jim Muller. \u201cIt embodies what community is all about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Cortez Post Office commemorated the rare occasion with Pictorial Postmarks, backed by the <a href=\"http:\/\/collectpostmarks.com\/date-meets-zip-calendar\/\" id=\"link-b831f4bb8228b16ee7a977e719f98549\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USPS Date Meets Zip Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=02759a46-3792-5484-a3fa-375ae34b538a&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" alt=\"A commemorative obtain them for the next 30 days.<\/p>\n<p>People from all over the country contacted Dillon about collecting the Pictorial Postmarks, she said.<\/p>\n<p>The day\u2019s festivities didn\u2019t end there.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Lavey formally welcomed Bourque\u2019s Cajun Store to Cortez with a ribbon-cutting ceremony just after 4 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The store is the creative endeavor of Robbie and Wendy Bourque, who brought their native Louisiana\u2019s soul food to Cortez.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\"
