{"id":45166,"date":"2021-08-16T22:46:00","date_gmt":"2021-08-17T04:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/all-school-reunion-brings-dolores-classmates-together-again\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T03:23:45","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T09:23:45","slug":"all-school-reunion-brings-dolores-classmates-together-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/all-school-reunion-brings-dolores-classmates-together-again\/","title":{"rendered":"All School Reunion brings Dolores classmates together again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=a3e7ea69-b0c0-5d56-b600-fe5ff1be70e9&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" alt=\"Mildred Brumley was the oldest female alumni in attendance at this weekend's All School Reunion in Dolores.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Mildred Brumley was the oldest female alumni in attendance at this weekend's All School Reunion in Dolores.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Kala Parkinson<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>The five-year Dolores All School Reunion took place this weekend alongside Escalante Days.<\/p>\n<p>After a 2020 pandemic cancellation, attending alumni were finally reunited, beginning with a barbecue at the Dolores Fire Station Friday evening.<\/p>\n<p>More than 300 alumni showed up to the barbecue, event organizer Angela Randall Salazar told <em id=\"emphasis-5b8d5fc19e2a1267ba843d4cbf067205\">The Journal. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt brings back a lot of memories of going to school here,\u201d she said. \u201cWe can all come together as a family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And come together as a family they did.<\/p>\n<p>Old friends, as well as members of different classes just meeting each other for the first time, fondly exchanged memories and \u201cDo you remember whens\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>One attendee joked that the bubblegum he chewed all those years ago was probably under the bleacher he currently sat on.<\/p>\n<p>While sound difficulties delayed the start of the presentation, the buzz of nostalgia and excitement coursed through the gymnasium of Dolores High School Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Keaton Broderick, Class of 2003, delivered a welcome speech.<\/p>\n<p>A slideshow flipped through pictures, mainly in black and white, of old school photos.<\/p>\n<p>The moments in time elicited strong emotions from the alumni \u2014 particularly a photo of the old Hollywood Bar, which received fiery cheers from the crowd.<\/p>\n<p>Those who served in the military were honored, and then superlative awards were announced.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s award winners are as follows:<\/p>\n<div class=\"naviga-element naviga-x-im-unordered-list\">Oldest: Mildred Brumley, 92, (Class of 1946) and Victor Sundquist, 101, (Class of 1938). Youngest:  Nicole Kabel  (Class of 2016) and RJ Cross (Class of 2008). Farthest traveled: Jacqueline Munera-Mason from Tampa, Florida (1643 miles). Longest married: Marjorie Branson (74 years). Shortest married: Carolyn Barker (1\u00bd years). Most attendance: Class of 1965.Most spirit: Class of 1967.<\/div>\n<p>Mildred Brumley (maiden name Webb), was thrilled to be back in Dolores after not visiting for five or six years, she said.<\/p>\n<p>Now living in Albuquerque, it\u2019s her and her two cats after  her husband\u2019s death two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>This event was an opportunity for her to have her own reunion with her family, including her granddaughters, she said. One shares the same birthday as her.<\/p>\n<p>Her secret to living so long?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGood health, good family, good friends and living in Dolores, Colorado,\u201d she told <em id=\"emphasis-59a1b0bcc84664921350f98ec890fcd5\">The Journal<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>She warmly recalled riding the Galloping Goose to Ridgway to get to college.<\/p>\n<p>Marjorie Branson, who graduated in 1947 and has been married the longest of the attendees, had her own secret to share.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=017c8974-4621-5b17-ba38-45ab67bb4030&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" alt=\"Marjorie Branson, right, won the award for longest married.
