Cortez Retail Enhancement Association partnered with ZU Gallery to bring Play Music on the Porch Day <\/a> to Cortez.<\/p>\n

People take part around the globe. A sign-up form on the event\u2019s website allows cities to declare their participation and earn a place on the event\u2019s map.<\/p>\n

\u201cPutting Cortez on the international map in even a little way helps brand our city,\u201d Jody Jahrling of ZU gallery \u2014 and the person responsible for signing Cortez up \u2014 said in a statement to The Journal<\/em>. \u201cWe have so many amazing musicians in our area, we should take every opportunity to highlight them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Several artists will churn out rhythmic tunes for the public to enjoy on Main Street from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.<\/p>\n

The lineup is:<\/p>\n

10 a.m. \u2013 Richard Meredith11 a.m. \u2013 Hagen McDonnell at ZU Gallery 12 p.m. \u2013 Alexander Westphal1 p.m. \u2013 Mark Allen<\/div>\n

According to its website, Play Music on the Porch Day was set in motion in 2013, when Los Angeles-based artist Brian Mallman had the desire to bring people together through a shared human experience: music.<\/p>\n

The event\u2019s tagline is \u201c\u201dWhat if for one day everything stopped \u2026 and we all just listened to the music?\u201d<\/p>\n

In an interview with Tone Mob<\/a>, Mallman said, \u201cThe experience of playing music supersedes the human differences. It\u2019s not a passive experience. It\u2019s about being a part of the music. It doesn\u2019t matter how good you are. It doesn\u2019t matter if you are with a group or just by yourself. It\u2019s about experiencing music in a more intimate way.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2020, more than 1,600 cities and musicians from 76 countries participated in the event, according to the Play Music on the Porch website.<\/p>\n

The event has continued to garner participation from many corners of the world.<\/p>\n\n

Participants are encouraged to post on social media with #playmusicontheporchday.<\/p>\n
