She saw the space next door for rent, and the rest is history.<\/p>\n<p>She wanted to give local artists a platform to show their work in a community setting.<\/p>\n<p>She did it all with local backing. A Kickstarter campaign completely funded the gallery\u2019s opening \u2014 and then some.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou do something, you think it\u2019s a good idea, but when you get that approval, it\u2019s amazing\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The gallery has contracted 12 artists for six months, with works ranging from acrylics to assemblage upcycle.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=ad1d0ddb-25eb-5fcb-9bec-7b89e3f0b74d&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" alt=\"ZU Gallery opened  Tuesday on West Main Street.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">ZU Gallery opened  Tuesday on West Main Street.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Kala Parkinson<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>A meeting space behind the gallery has already been used by the Cortez Area Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Southwest Colorado and the Women Veterans Club. Jahrling is showcasing photographs and actual signs that capture the city \u2014some serious, filtered depictions, others with a playful twist.<\/p>\n<p>One such sign says \u201cGarage Sale: Your troubles.
