{"id":44722,"date":"2021-09-15T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-09-15T06:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/woman-dies-in-crash-on-u-s-160-south-of-cortez\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T03:21:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T09:21:08","slug":"woman-dies-in-crash-on-u-s-160-south-of-cortez","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/woman-dies-in-crash-on-u-s-160-south-of-cortez\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman dies in crash on U.S. 160 south of Cortez"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=128787ad-3319-5157-b8e5-3ba8545f7917&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" alt=\"Blotter lights\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Blotter lights<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>A two-vehicle crash Monday night on U.S. Highway 160\/491 south of Cortez killed a woman passenger, according to the Colorado State Patrol.<\/p>\n<p>The crash occurred about 7:30 p.m. at mile marker 32 and involved a 2017 Hyundai sedan and a 2009 Ford pickup.<\/p>\n<p>According to Trooper Josh Lewis, the Hyundai was northbound when the driver allegedly attempted to take a left turn, entered the southbound lane and collided with a southbound pickup.<\/p>\n<p>The Hyundai passenger, Robin Frost, 32, died at the scene, Lewis said. Her place of residence was not available.<\/p>\n<p>The driver of the Hyundai, Alden P. House, of Towaoc, was taken into custody, Lewis said, and investigators suspect that alcohol is a suspected contributing factor in the crash. House was injured and transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Possible charges against House were not immediately available.<\/p>\n<p>Frost was wearing a seat belt, and House was not, according to the accident report. They were both ejected from the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>The male driver and two female children in the Ford pickup did not have serious injuries, Lewis said. The driver was wearing a seat belt, and the two children, ages 5 and 2, were secured in car seats, Lewis said.<\/p>\n<p>The highway was closed briefly because of the crash, then reopened with alternating traffic, said Cortez Fire Protection Chief Jay Balfour.
