(Courtesy Southwest Health System)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>Southwest Health System has hired two new doctors, according to an Oct. 5 news release.<\/p>\n<p>SHS manages Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez and a clinic in Mancos.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Amanda Mullen will serve from the main hospital campus, 1311 N. Mildred Road. She is a family practice physician who completed her residency at Southern Colorado Family Medicine in Alamosa. She earned her medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Mullen stated she enjoys taking care of the whole family, and building long relationships with patients.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe most interesting part is learning to manage chronic diseases better and staying updated on preventative care,\u201d Mullen stated in the news release.<\/p>\n<p>Cortez caught her interest when she did a rotation at the hospital clinic during medical school residency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really enjoyed the community and patient population,\u201d she said. \u201cI am excited to work in a rural, underserved area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mullen\u2019s partner also is a physician for Southwest Health System. When not providing care, the couple enjoy mountain biking, rock climbing, and their husky, Steele.<\/p>\n<div class=\"naviga-element naviga-subheadline1\">Mancos Valley Clinic<\/div>\n<p>Dr. Courtney Jones joins the Mancos Valley Clinic staff as a family physician. She is also a specialist in women\u2019s health and pediatrics.<\/p>\n<p>Jones is board-certified in family medicine by the American Academy of Family Physicians. She graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. She completed her residency at the University of Florida, Community Health and Family Medicine in Gainesville, Florida.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy passion is forming relationships with my patients and helping them to identify and reach their goals regarding their health,\u201d Jones stated in a news release. \u201cI have a special interest in the mind-body connection and optimizing mental health as well as physical health, through a variety of modalities. I enjoy taking care of all ages of patients and discussing their particular goals for their stage of life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jones also has a special interest in weight-loss medicine and is pursuing a certification in obesity medicine.<\/p>\n<p>She added that the Mancos community has been welcoming.
