{"id":43829,"date":"2021-11-09T23:20:00","date_gmt":"2021-11-09T23:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/calling-all-elves-32nd-annual-parade-of-lights-on-its-way\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T09:15:44","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T09:15:44","slug":"calling-all-elves-32nd-annual-parade-of-lights-on-its-way","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/calling-all-elves-32nd-annual-parade-of-lights-on-its-way\/","title":{"rendered":"Calling all elves: 32nd annual Parade of Lights on its way"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=42cb65b9-1ecd-4075-84b8-10920f478c4e&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1040\" height=\"781\" alt=\"A 1958 Panhead Harley-Davidson sparkles with parade lights for the Chrome Mafia float in a previous year\u2019s Parade of Lights march down Main Street in Cortez.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">A 1958 Panhead Harley-Davidson sparkles with parade lights for the Chrome Mafia float in a previous year\u2019s Parade of Lights march down Main Street in Cortez.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">The Journal file<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>The Four Corners Board of Realtors is seeking the help of Santa\u2019s local helpers to produce this year\u2019s 32nd annual Parade of Lights.<\/p>\n<p>Stan Pierce, 50-year local Realtor and this year\u2019s grand marshal, inspired the parade theme: \u201cAll Santa\u2019s Helpers,\u201d said Terry McCabe, parade organizer and Four Corners Board of Realtors member.<\/p>\n<p>Pierce, the elder member on the Four Corners Board of Realtors \u2014 and who McCabe describes as the patriarch of the organization, is selfless in his endeavors to help others, she said.<\/p>\n<p>She wants the parade to dole out recognition to those who normally don\u2019t expect it for their acts of kindness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe (Pierce) does things for other people \u2013 people don\u2019t even know how much he does,\u201d she said. \u201cBut that\u2019s kind of the hope: that individuals that do the same thing \u2013and there\u2019s a lot of them out there \u2013 will be a part of the parade and be recognized as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In line with this year\u2019s theme, the judges of the floats will be members of nonprofits. A first-, second- and third-place prize, sponsored by Four Corners Board of Realtors members and affiliates, will be awarded to floats in each of the three parade categories \u2013 commercial, nonprofit and other, which includes individuals, school and clubs.<\/p>\n<p>Judges, stationed at the north corner of Market and Main streets, will evaluate participants for music and lights, creativity, theme development and workmanship.<\/p>\n<p>Floats will line up on South Maple Street and will travel along the north side of Main Street to North Park.<\/p>\n<p>The north side of Main Street will be closed for parking.<\/p>\n<p>So far, about 10 groups have signed up to participate, McCabe said.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, there were about 65 entries, and the year before, almost 80, she said.<\/p>\n<p>The last day to enter is Dec. 2 at 5 p.m., and forms should be returned in person to the Re\/Max office at 1624 E. Main RE\/MAX or by email to <a href=\"mailto:terrymc@move2swcolo.com\">terrymc@move2swcolo.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t worry about the weather, she said.
