A man is suspected of shooting his wife before shooting himself Wednesday night in Bayfield.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement was notified of the incident about 8:11 p.m. when someone called 911 to report a man shot his wife in the 100 block of East North Street, according to a news release issued Thursday by the Bayfield Marshal\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

Deputies arrived at the scene to find the suspect standing outside his front porch firing rounds into the air from a handgun, according to the release. As deputies approached and made contact with the man, he retreated inside the home, according to the release.<\/p>\n

Deputies tried talking to the suspect and giving verbal commands for him to come outside. Then they saw him use the handgun to die by suicide.<\/p>\n

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

The female victim was inside the house with a gunshot wound, according to the release. She was taken by ambulance to Mercy Regional Medical Center.<\/p>\n

Bayfield Marshal Joseph McIntyre said the woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but he declined to release any further information about the shooting pending the investigation.<\/p>\n

Identities of the man and the woman were also not released, pending notification of next of kin.<\/p>\n
