Pets and people dressed up in holiday costumes could be seen parading through Cortez and Dolores on Thanksgiving Day.<\/p>\n

The For Pet\u2019s Sake Turkey Trot took place at Parque de Vida in Cortez.<\/p>\n

It is a fundraiser for the all-volunteer organization that provides foster care for cats and dogs, helps pay for emergency veterinarian care, sponsors low-cost vaccination clinics, manages feral cat colonies and helps homeless pets find a home.<\/p>\n

This year, For Pet\u2019s Sake volunteer Bill Williams took on the pilgrim role, usually performed by Jack Schuenemeyer, who was out of town.<\/p>\n

\u201cBill makes a great pilgrim, I may be in danger of losing my job,\u201d Schuenemeyer joked.<\/p>\n

Dolores Thanksgiving run<\/div>\n

In Dolores, a 5k Turkey Trot raised funds for the Dolores Backpack program, which provides food for students and families. The sixth annual event is sponsored by Blue Sky Homes and Land.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbout 100 folks showed up, and there were a lot of fun costumes,\u201d said organizer Bill Stanley.<\/p>\n
