(Jerry McBride\/Durango Herald file file)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Two Durango High School soccer players scored all-state honors after their performances this fall, CHSAANow.com announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Junior midfielder Cedar Newman landed on the Class 4A all-state first team.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Sam Carozza earned an all-state honorable mention.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=501388e7-6043-5355-9570-c8226a17a8ca&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1300\" height=\"1019\" alt=\"Sam Carozza of Durango High School controls the ball while playing Grand Junction High School this season. (Jerry McBride\/Durango Herald file)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Jerry McBride\/Durango Herald file<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Newman scored 12 goals and assisted five more this season while stealing the ball away from opposing players 319 times.<\/p>\n<p>Newman also came up big in some of the team\u2019s biggest games, scoring both of Durango\u2019s goals in the second round of the playoffs against D\u2019Evelyn, to help propel the Demons into the quarterfinals for just the third time in the program\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<p>Newman was also named the 5A\/4A Southwestern League\u2019s boys soccer player of the year this season.<\/p>\n<p>Carozza also scored 12 goals and had five assists for the Demons this season. In addition to kicking in goals, Carozza kicked field goals and extra points for the Demon football team, converting on 52 of 55 point-after attempts.<\/p>\n<p>Luiz Aguirre of Grand Junction High School, who received an honorable mention, was the only other player from the league honored.
