(Joe Cavaretta\/South Florida Sun-Sentinel via AP file)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">onset<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>San Juan Basin Public Health announced Friday that the monoclonal antibody treatment mobile unit \u2013 which was originally set to be available only two weeks in Durango \u2013 will extend its service through Dec. 23.<\/p>\n<p>Monoclonal antibody treatments have been shown to be effective at preventing hospitalizations for people who test positive for COVID-19 and are considered at high risk for severe illness.<\/p>\n<p>The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is administering the treatments.<\/p>\n<p>The treatments are available to those who are 12 or older, at high risk for severe illness and have tested positive for COVID-19 with symptoms that began within 10 days of seeking treatment. Those who are hospitalized or on oxygen as a result of COVID-19 are not eligible.<\/p>\n<p>The treatment is designed to boost the immune response.
