Ben Ray Luj\u00e1n<\/a>, who is recovering from a stroke in January, says he plans to be back at work in \u201cjust a few short weeks\u201d to vote on President Joe Biden\u2019s forthcoming Supreme Court nominee.<\/p>\n<p>In a video released Sunday by his office, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/new-mexico-albuquerque-santa-fe-congress-ae815d310ca8762824a4c09573899e51\" id=\"link-3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the New Mexico senator<\/a> said he is at the University of New Mexico Hospital after surgery to relieve pressure on his brain and soon will go to an inpatient rehabilitation facility for \u201ca few more weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m doing well. I\u2019m strong. I\u2019m back on the road to recovery, and I\u2019m going to make a full recovery,\u201d the 49-year-old Luj\u00e1n said in the video, which showed him seated next to two of his doctors. \u201cI\u2019m going to walk out of here, I\u2019m going to beat this, and I\u2019m going to be stronger once I come out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Now I\u2019m proud to report, then I\u2019ll be back on the floor of the United States Senate in just a few short weeks to vote on important legislation and to consider a Supreme Court nominee,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>According to his office, the Luj\u00e1n began experiencing dizziness and fatigue on Jan. 27 and checked himself into a hospital in Santa Fe. Luj\u00e1n was transferred to the hospital in Albuquerque for further evaluation and treatment.<\/p>\n<p>His absence from the Senate came as Biden considers a nominee to replace the retiring Justice Stephen G. Breyer. Biden has said he wants to announce a pick by the end of February.<\/p>\n<p>In a 50-50 Senate, Luj\u00e1n\u2019s vote would be critical if Democrats wanted to confirm Biden\u2019s nominee without the help of Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRest assured, New Mexicans can know they will have a voice and a vote during this process,\u201d Luj\u00e1n said in the video. \u201cThat has never changed.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LujanPatrick Semansky WASHINGTON \u2013 Democratic Sen.
