(Jim Mimiaga\/The Journal)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>Local boutique merchants have teamed up to open the River Trail Outpost in Dolores at 1321 Railroad Ave.<\/p>\n<p>The cooperative mercantile features antiques, local artwork, furniture, housewares, country d\u00e9cor, outdoor gear, Native American jewelry, custom knives, unique items, gifts and more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve always loved Dolores and wanted to open a store here. When we met our partners, it all fell into place,\u201d said owner Mickey Brown.<\/p>\n<p>After retiring from the construction trades, he and his wife, Ellie, moved to Cortez from Colorado Springs.<\/p>\n<p>It was serendipity that the Antique Charm Mall in Dolores had just closed, because the shopkeepers that rented out sections needed a new place to go.<\/p>\n<p>Barb Wallace, Fran Roggenbach, and Lori Shearer joined the Browns to open River Trail Outpost at the former Colorado State Park building next to Montezuma Mexican restaurant.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=71c7af30-2e50-561c-a213-c14243b58b23&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"720\" height=\"960\" alt=\"River Trail Outpost in Dolores features antiques, local artwork, furniture, housewares, country d\u00e9cor, outdoor gear, Native American jewelry, custom knives, unique items, gifts and more. (Courtesy photo)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>\u201cWhen the Antique Charm closed, it left a big void, but we live on in a new location next to Riverside Park,\u201d Wallace said. \u201cWe have a huge variety of items and have a similar format that blends together nicely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Local artists are featured at the store. Check out Rob Velarde\u2019s Native American pop art, Bonnie Loving\u2019s metalwork, Clarence Lowry\u2019s carved wooden bears and raccoons, and Scott\u2019s House of Tie Dyes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d like to host meet and greets with the artists,\u201d Brown said.<\/p>\n<p>Brown grew up in southern Utah and is Navajo. He was part of a traveling group that performed Native American dances in the Colorado Springs and Garden of the Gods.<\/p>\n<p>While living in Cedar City, Utah, Brown owned a bike and skateboard shop and built a skate park that is still used for competitions.<\/p>\n<p>River Trail Outpost is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tues to Sat.
