Johnson\/Durango Herald)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>About 50 people gathered Sunday at Durango Rug Co. in downtown Durango for a march and silent auction to support the people of Ukraine in response to the Russian invasion.<\/p>\n<p>Ukrainian couple Olena Yaremchuk and Vladimir Koshevoy along with fellow organizers Dustin Nolen and Stacy Brocker helped put on the event.<\/p>\n<p>Before Sunday\u2019s march and fundraiser, Koshevoy said he and his wife had raised about $1,000 and had sent money to 30 different Ukrainian families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we can do right now is we\u2019re transferring funds into their accounts,\u201d he said. \u201cEvery bit helps and it\u2019s not big amounts, but it\u2019s something we can do. We\u2019re trying to help people who can\u2019t leave, and people who are now trying to get to European countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Koshevoy said he and his wife are in the process of starting the charity Intellectual Leadership Ukraine Forever to assist Ukrainian families affected by the invasion.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=c22ff2d2-b0ad-5891-ac59-1c2d93d76ac2&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" alt=\"Ukrainian couple Olena Yaremchuk and Vladimir Koshevoy talk about the work they\u2019ve done to raise money to send to Ukrainian families Sunday at Durango Rug Co. Johnson\/Durango Herald)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Yaremchuk and Koshevoy are also working with a charity based in Denver called Global Musical Bridges, which is organizing an online concert featuring Ukrainian musicians to raise money to pay doctors in Ukraine to provide free virtual care for civilians.<\/p>\n<p>Another effort Koshevoy and Yaremchuk are looking to fund is purchasing body armor for civilians in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to expand our activity because this is just the beginning of this humanitarian crisis,\u201d Koshevoy said.<\/p>\n<p>Yaremchuk said she is grateful to those in the Durango community who came out to show support and donate to help Ukrainian people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need support for all. Women and children and all that,\u201d she said. \u201cI love this. I love people who come together to be in the street with me. I am really shocked at the organization in Durango who don\u2019t know me and don\u2019t know my family and they come to support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those who attended the fundraiser were able to make bids on 30 art pieces from 10 different artists. About 18 pieces were brought over from the Smiley Art Room located in the Smiley Building.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI emailed everybody last minute and the night before, and everybody was supportive.
