(Cody Olivas\/Durango Herald)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>The Durango High School girls golf team won its home tournament Monday at the Hillcrest Golf Club, then turned around and won Montezuma-Cortez\u2019s tournament at the Conquistador Golf Course on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe did awesome,\u201d said DHS head coach Kirk Rawles. \u201cThey played great.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Durango juniors Natasha Walcott and Zayda Mestas reached the podium at both tournaments with top-three finishes to lead DHS.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m pretty happy with it,\u201d Walcott. \u201cGood golf always feels good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They both shot an 83 at Hillcrest to tie for second, finishing just one shot behind the winner, Kylie Manus of Kirtland Central.<\/p>\n<p>With some work being done at Hillcrest, the golfers played the same nine holes twice, which helped them a little.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was pretty cool,\u201d Walcott said. \u201cIn the second round, you could learn from your mistakes in the first round.\u201d Walcott did exactly that, shooting a 45 on the front nine and then slashing seven strokes off her score in the back nine.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=62365f7e-4bdd-54ec-991f-8086e44eba24&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1333\" alt=\"Natasha Walcott of Durango High School chips out of a tough spot on Tuesday at the Conquistador Golf Course in Cortez. Junior Eliza Bosmans shot a 101 to place 10th. Claire Paul shot a 107, Raimee Brant shot a 110, Shae Madrid shot a 111 and Rabun Shropshire shot a 114.<\/p>\n<p>DHS won their home tournament\u2019s team title with a 264, followed by Kirtland Central (277), Montezuma-Cortez (295), Monte Vista, Gunnison and Alamosa.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=7832627b-13db-5d0e-b86e-e584dd42f0ec&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1334\" height=\"2000\" alt=\"Chesnie Patrick of Montezuma-Cortez drives the ball on Tuesday at Cortez\u2019s home tournament. Ashlyn Hall shot 102, and Saraih Robinson shot a 107 for the Panthers.<\/p>\n<p>At Cortez\u2019s tournament, Walcott shot a personal best 80 to take second. Mestas shot an 83 to finish third while three of their teammates also finished in the top 10.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI felt pretty good,\u201d Walcott said about her Tuesday round. \u201cMy short game showed up at the last part. I was sinking some putts for par and sinking some putts for birdie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Walcott sunk two birdies on the day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNatasha and Zayda are taking it to the next level and finding that consistency,\u201d Rawles said.<\/p>\n<p>Three other Demons also shot in the 80s at Conquistador. Senior Summer Bonnar shot an 87 to place fifth. Madrid and White both shot an 88, tying for sixth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday was the first time we\u2019ve had that many girls shoot in the 80s,\u201d Rawles said.<\/p>\n<p>Paul shot a 94, Bosmans shot a 95 and Rike shot a 100 and Brant shot a 109 for DHS.<\/p>\n<p>The home team also had it best round of the year, besting its 3A competition and placing third in the team race with a season-low 288. \u201cI\u2019m proud of all of them,\u201d said MCHS coach Travis Wright. \u201cThis is the first time we\u2019ve ever gotten three scores under 100.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=332de2cb-af19-51d1-84a0-c34411102853&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1334\" height=\"2000\" alt=\"Summer Bonnar of Durango High School sinks a putt on Tuesday at the Conquistador Golf Course in Cortez. (Cody Olivas\/Durango Herald)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Patrick led M-CHS with a 91, beginning her day strong with a birdie. \u201cThat felt amazing,\u201d she said. \u201cIt got me in the mindset that I will play good today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Robinson shot a personal best 98. \u201cIt\u2019s super-exciting,\u201d she said, noting that it was also one of the first times she played a full 18 holes.<\/p>\n<p>Hall, meanwhile, rounded out M-CHS\u2019 team score with a 99. Her highlight, she said, was sinking a putt for par on the seventh hole with her family watching.<\/p>\n<p>In the team race, DHS shot a 250 to take first. Piedra Vista, led by individual champion Annie Yost (76), placed second with a 255, followed by Kirtland Central (273), Gunnison (295), Alamosa (306), Monte Vista (363) and Navajo Prep (398).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really proud of the team,\u201d Walcott said. \u201cI felt everybody played good yesterday and today.
