(Jim Mimiaga\/The Journal)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>Residents may celebrate the resurgence of live entertainment by enjoying the classic play \u201cCharlotte\u2019s Web,\u201d to be performed by the Dolores Theater Troupe Friday and Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cfabulous cast\u201d boasts 35 students  in grades four through 12, said director Pete Swingle, adding that the performance is \u201cvery heartfelt with some surprises.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The play also will show off the theater\u2019s new LED lights, which can be triggered remotely for special effects.<\/p>\n<p>E.B. White\u2019s familiar story of \u201cCharlotte\u2019s Web\u201d follows the adventures of a little girl trying to save Wilbur the pig from slaughter with the help of a barn spider named Charlotte.<\/p>\n<p>During a rehearsal Wednesday, student actors reflected on the performance and the tale\u2019s various meanings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is quite a bit of action; adults and kids will enjoy it,\u201d said Julianne Vega, who plays Wilbur. \u201cThe struggles of the animals are similar to what people have. I really connect with the joy and enthusiasm of Wilbur.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senior Katelyn Carpenter and  junior Noble Traweek play Charlotte and together use their arms to portray spider legs.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=b4929361-94f7-5f1f-9146-e8c5bc5d41bc&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"720\" height=\"395\" alt=\"Dolores theater students have fun during a final rehearsal for \u201cCharlotte's Web\u201d on Wednesday. (Jim Mimiaga\/The Journal)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>The play \u201cis a story of friendship between a pig and a spider, which is peculiar, but shows friends can be from anywhere and look like anything. It is really beautiful,\u201d Carpenter said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe audience will like the characters,\u201d Traweek said. \u201cThey fit well together even though they are all so different. It is fun to act on stage, be someone else and tell this classic story.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The little girl who saves Wilbur, Fern, is played by Reagan Burger, a seventh grader.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a constant fight to keep Wilbur from going to the smokehouse,\u201d she said, laughing. \u201cThe play is a childish and grown-up story at the same time \u2013 very literate too. I learned a lot of big words.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The gander, played by freshman Addisen Saul, makes occasional appearances to complain about their gosling children in a humorous way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is my first play,\u201d Saul said. \u201cI love entertaining people, and I aspire to be a voice actor, so this is good experience. Theater is fun, and the people are nice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Playing Templeton, the mean rat, has been cool, said sophomore Aiden Pym.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is a nervous and rude character, but then ends up doing something nice in the end,\u201d Pym said.<\/p>\n<p>The students said theater helps them overcome challenges of storytelling, make new friends and gain acting skills.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI used to be very shy. Being in theater helped me gain confidence. Now I can talk to anybody and enjoy acting without the stage fright,\u201d Burger said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCharlotte\u2019s Web\u201d will take the stage  at 7 p.m. Friday, April 29, and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, April 30, in the Dolores High School Commons auditorium.
