(Joel Priest\/Special to The Journal)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Joel Priest\/Special to The Journal<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>Dove Creek and Dolores high schools put their best foot forward on the San Juan Basin League stage and earned some all-league spots in the championship meet.<\/p>\n<p>Dove Creek picked up third place as a team for the boys and girls, while the Dolores girls finished fifth overall, while the boys ran to a sixth place team finish.<\/p>\n<p>The Dove Creek boys showcased their strength in the sprints and jumps in Thursday\u2019s meet at Ignacio High School. Two Bulldogs won the horizontal jumping events, as junior Kade Hankins topped the long jump field (20 feet, 10\u00bc inches) and classmate Quaden Huffaker won the triple jump (38 feet, 5\u00be inches).<\/p>\n<p>Hankins also ran to a pair of additional league titles in the 110 hurdles (17.47) and 300 hurdles (46.36). Senior Chorbin Cressler headlined a trio of Bulldogs scoring in the 100-meter dash, taking second in the race (11.66), while Huffaker finished in third (12.24) and junior Dustin Glover took fifth (12.40).<\/p>\n<p>Cressler came back to win the 200 meters (24.05) and helped the Bulldogs 4\u00d7100 (46.13) and 4\u00d7200 (1:39.28) take second place in the field.<\/p>\n<p>The girls program leaned on the hurdle and field events for their points haul. Junior Trista Barnett took second in the 100 hurdles (18.20) and 300 hurdles (51.86), while the Bulldog 4\u00d7100 relay took top spot (56.34). The sprint medley relay finished runner-up (2:07.52).<\/p>\n<p>In the throws, junior Tara Glover won double-gold, taking both the shot put (33 feet, 6\u00bd inches) and discus (103 feet). Classmate Rylee Hickman claimed third in the discus (82 feet, 6 inches) after a fourth place in the long jump (13 feet, 5 inches).<\/p>\n<p>Freshman Ralynn Hickman rounded out the league champs for the Dove Creek girls, taking the triple jump with a leap of 27 feet, 1 inch.<\/p>\n<p>The Dove Creek boys scored 85 points, just narrowly behind Ignacio (88 points) to take third overall. Mancos won the team title with 165 points. On the girls side, the Bulldogs tallied 76 points, while Ignacio earned 98 points and league champs Mancos scored 126.<\/p>\n<p>The Dolores Bears brought a formidable presence to the SJBL meet, with plenty of high finishes to show for their efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Junior Akima Edwards lay claim to the lone individual Dolores league title, winning the long jump (14 feet, 11\u00bc inches), and made noise in her other events as well. Edwards took second in the 200 (29.03) and third in the 100 (13.80), while the Bears added three finishers in the top six of the 400 \u2013 Maya Lowe (fourth, 1:11), Siena Parr (fifth, 1:13), and Isla Vaughn (sixth, 1:14).<\/p>\n<p>Elia Lowe ran to a third-place finish in the 1,600 (6:19), just in front of Maya (6:20), while the Bears would add a league title in the 4 x 400 relay (5:06).
