Lauren Boebert falsified mileage reports during 2020 and used reimbursements from her campaign fund to pay off tax liens on her restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>The American Muckrakers PAC \u2013 the same group that released compromising videos of Rep. Madison Cawthorn that may have aided in his recent primary defeat \u2013 wrote to the Colorado Attorney General\u2019s Office about the matter on June 1, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/06\/08\/us\/politics\/lauren-boebert.html\" id=\"link-fc091123a2391c87a0c60aed17f0161c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first reported by The <em id=\"emphasis-ac23e6b1b24aafe10d39c0e0bd5d95ef\">New York Times<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The office reached out to the Colorado Department of Revenue and the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment for investigative support on the issue, Janet Drake, the deputy Colorado attorney general for criminal justice, wrote in a June 7 email to Muckraker founder David Wheeler.<\/p>\n<p>The allegations stem from an <a href=\"https:\/\/docquery.fec.gov\/cgi-bin\/forms\/C00728238\/1397704\/sb\/ALL\" id=\"link-b0836288e390265b402e1e7cb97ca871\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">April 2020 quarterly campaign finance report<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/docquery.fec.gov\/cgi-bin\/forms\/C00728238\/1481552\/sb\/ALL\" id=\"link-76c38f0e408c5ef1acf06035281555c8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">December 2020 post-general report<\/a> that show two payments totaling $22,259 made to Boebert, a Republican from Silt, from her own campaign for mileage reimbursement. That total equates to nearly 39,000 miles driven using the Internal Revenue Service\u2019s mileage rate, a nearly impossible distance to drive during the time period.<\/p>\n<p>An <a href=\"https:\/\/docquery.fec.gov\/cgi-bin\/forms\/C00728238\/1501809\/sb\/ALL\" id=\"link-d5d5457186afac671a1dbe9b0957d5c6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">amended report<\/a> lowered the reimbursement amount to $17,280 and listed other travel expenses such as hotel rooms.<\/p>\n<p>In late 2020, Boebert also <a href=\"https:\/\/coloradonewsline.com\/2021\/02\/04\/rep-boebert-paid-off-nearly-20k-in-state-tax-liens-in-2020\/\" id=\"link-7459534fc2c2654f81cf904fe8798725\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">paid off nearly $20,000 in state tax liens<\/a> against her restaurant, the firearm-themed Shooters Grill in Rifle.<\/p>\n<p>A combination of liens totaling about $19,000 were satisfied on Oct. 22, 2020. The largest mileage reimbursement payment of about $21,200 is dated Nov. 11, 2020, in the finance report.<\/p>\n<p>The American Muckrakers PAC believes Boebert used that campaign reimbursement to pay the liens, which would be illegal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs you are both fully aware, utilizing an illegal source of funds or ill-gotten funds to pay off a tax lien is illegal in Colorado and under federal law,\u201d Wheeler wrote in his initial letter to Attorney General Phil Weiser and Colorado Department of Labor and Employment Executive Director Joseph Barela.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn other words, you cannot use federal campaign funds to pay off your tax liens by reimbursing yourself for miles you didn\u2019t drive. That is the very definition of ill-gotten funds,\u201d he wrote. \u201cWe believe Rep. Boebert did exactly this. Where did she get the funds to pay off this lien is the ultimate question?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the Muckrakers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fireboebert.com\/_files\/ugd\/933c64_bc3d2071818045afabb320c3280a6776.pdf\" id=\"link-16b69b23aceb718697622df2e4389525\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">posted a PDF<\/a> of all related documents, including the email Drake sent to him about involving the Department of Revenue and the Department of Labor and Employment, Lawrence Pacheco, a spokesperson for the attorney general, declined to confirm the involved agencies. I represent over 50,000 square miles of Colorado; I connect with the people I serve rather than sitting at home in a basement like most Leftists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Election Commission <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/legal\/matter-under-review\/7876\/\" id=\"link-82d45b246c88796592c231cb33a7aa25\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dismissed a complaint<\/a> about the mileage reimbursement issue earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Boebert, a controversial freshman representative known for her inflammatory remarks, is running for re-election in Colorado\u2019s 3rd Congressional District. She <a href=\"https:\/\/coloradonewsline.com\/2022\/05\/26\/lauren-boebert-don-coram-gop-primary-colorado\/\" id=\"link-dbffc337c365d4333f01036ea25b4d38\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">faces a primary challenger<\/a> in state Sen.
