They condemned Mathews for his actions, and two of Ream\u2019s cousins said they wish he could receive the death penalty. There were several times that 6th Judicial District Judge Suzanne Carlson had to ask both Mathews and the victims not to interrupt each other.<\/p>\n
Racquel Morgan Finch, Ream\u2019s cousin, said \u201cthe world is dimmer without her (Ream) in it.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said that after Ream\u2019s mother died, Ream raised her brother and sister, and later, after divorcing her previous husband, she took on the responsibility of raising his adult disabled son in addition to her other three children.<\/p>\n
Joanne Ledford, another of Ream\u2019s cousins, said, \u201cWe have a \u2018beauty and the devil\u2019 story here, except the devil killed the beauty in the end.\u201d<\/p>\n
She recited a handwritten speech that was dripping in contempt for Mathews. Ream\u2019s children and future grandchildren needed her, but now they have to go along without their mother, Ledford said.<\/p>\n
She called Mathews the \u201cposter child for domestic violence and habitual offenders.\u201d<\/p>\n
Deputy District Attorney-Appellate Sean Murray said he did not know Ream, but everyone he interacted with throughout the case described her as \u201can angel on Earth.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI think we feel like we got justice for Rachel and the family,\u201d he said after the hearing. \u201cWe\u2019re really happy and appreciative of the jury taking a look at everything and getting the right result.\u201d<\/p>\n
