The La Plata County Humane Society says it is in \u201cdesperate\u201d need of foster care, adoptions and volunteers to help care for more than 50 dogs during the shelter\u2019s renovation beginning next week.<\/p>\n

Renovations are estimated to take one to three weeks and include new floors, paint, ceiling tiles and kennels. During that time, the shelter will not be accepting dogs relinquished by owners, but will continue to accommodate stray or impounded dogs in the outdoor kennels.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Humane Society has provided support to pets in need for over 50 years in La Plata County. Right now, we need the community to step up and help care for our homeless dogs,\u201d said Colleen Dunning, foster coordinator. \u201cNow is the time to adopt or sign up to foster an adult dog for a few weeks. With help from fosters, we can empty our kennel, while still caring for our dogs.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Humane Society will provide all pet supplies to fosters. The shelter will also give out gas gift cards to volunteers who transport dogs to surrounding shelters.<\/p>\n

Potential fosters can fill out an application at https:\/\/lpchumanesociety.org\/get-involved\/foster-care<\/a>. Fosters can care for animals for the entire duration of the renovation or for as long as they are able.<\/p>\n
