Eli Tomac on Saturday finished second overall at Budds Creek Motocross Park in Mechanicsville, Maryland, with a dominating win in the first moto and a fifth-place finish in the second to regain the lead in the 2022 series standings.<\/p>\n

With two rounds to go in the series, Tomac has won four overall race this season, compared with three for Chase Sexton, two for Jason Anderson and one for Ken Roczen. Tomac on Saturday picked up his 11th moto win out of 20 motos races this season.<\/p>\n

The overall second-place finish Saturda<\/a>y returned Tomac to the top of the standings with 449 points, compared with Sexton\u2019s 448.<\/p>\n

Anderson, Saturday\u2019s overall winner with two second-place finishes, was in third place in the series standings with 369 points. Roczen was fourth with 344, and Christian Craig was fifth with 303.<\/p>\n

Tomac, who was the No. 3 qualifier after two practice runs Saturday morning, was in third place in Moto 1 after Lap 1, but took the lead from Roczen in Lap 3.<\/p>\n

Tomac quickly built a commanding lead in an unfettered run to the finish line, with a 3-second lead by the fifth lap. Anderson overtook Roczen for second place in the 13th of 17 laps, and Roczen held off Ryan Dungey for third place. Christian Craig was fifth.<\/p>\n

Sexton, who entered Budds Creek with a one-point lead over Tomac in the series standings, crashed with Tanner Ward in the first lap of Moto 1 and dropped initially to 29th place. Sexton remounted his Honda and finished in seventh place, nearly 30 seconds off the winning pace.<\/p>\n

The early crash set Sexton back in his hunt for the season title, giving him 14 points for the Moto 1 compared with Tomac\u2019s 25.<\/p>\n

Sexton bounced back in Moto 2, moving into second place behind the front-running Anderson in Lap 6, and taking the lead in Lap 11 for the eventual victory. Tomac finished a distant fifth.<\/p>\n

Roczen was third, and Ryan Dungey fourth to round out the top five.<\/p>\n

The Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship series goes to Crawfordsville, Indiana, for the 11th race on Aug. 27, then wraps up the 2022 season at Fox Raceway in Pala, California, on Sept. 3.<\/p>\n
