The Durango High School softball team scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Tuesday to rally past Montezuma-Cortez and win 14-10 at DHS.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a barn burner,\u201d said DHS head coach John Bernazzani. \u201cWhat a game. The girls really defended their home turf after losing to Cortez there earlier in the season.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alaysia Kremer had another big day at the plate for DHS, hitting a pair of home runs over the fence and finishing with four runs and four RBIs. Kremer now has six home runs on the year. \u201cShe continues to really light it up,\u201d Bernazzani said.<\/p>\n

The Demons scored at least one run in all six innings, but the teams were knotted for most of the contest. DHS scored four in the bottom of the first to go up, 4-1, and added a run to its lead in the second.<\/p>\n

The Panthers, however, responded with five runs in the third to take a 6-5 lead. Durango scored one in the bottom of the inning to tie it. Both teams then scored two in the fourth and one in the fifth to enter the sixth still tied, 9-9. Cortez plated one in the top of the sixth to keep the pressure on DHS, but the Demons exploded for five in the sixth and then kept the Panthers from scoring in the seventh.<\/p>\n

Tehya Barnes had two doubles for DHS and drove in two. Ellie Casias had a pair of hits and three RBIs. Cori Davis scored two runs, and Molly Best scored three.<\/p>\n

Kelly Arthur, meanwhile, pitched a complete game for DHS, working out of a couple jams to get the win.<\/p>\n
