An archery hunter suffered life-threatening injuries Tuesday, when he was gored and trampled by a moose in a remote area west of Fort Collins.(Associated Press file)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">du1-i-syn<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>FORT COLLINS \u2013 Colorado authorities say an archery hunter suffered life-threatening injuries when he was gored and trampled by a moose in a remote area west of Fort Collins.<\/p>\n<p>The rare moose attack happened Tuesday as the adult male hunter prepared to shoot the animal with an arrow, the Larimer County Sheriff\u2019s Office <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coloradoan.com\/story\/news\/2022\/09\/14\/moose-attack-colorado-seriously-injures-archery-hunter-in-larimer-county\/69494471007\/?utm_campaign=snd-autopilot\" id=\"link-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told The Coloradoan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sheriff\u2019s spokesperson Jenevieve Kramer says the injured hunter activated an emergency signal from a GPS device. Other hunters found the man as he hiked out of the area south of Cameron Peak, about 70 miles west of Fort Collins.<\/p>\n<p>A sheriff\u2019s deputy performed \u201clifesaving\u201d first aid and applied a tourniquet, Kramer says. The man was flown by helicopter to an area hospital. His condition wasn\u2019t immediately known.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was in very bad shape,\u201d Kramer said.<\/p>\n<p>It was the fourth moose attack on a person this year and the 13th since 2019, according to Travis Duncan, a spokesperson with Colorado Parks and Wildlife.<\/p>\n<p>Colorado\u2019s archery moose season runs from Sept. 11 to Sept. 30.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A moose is spotted browsing on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park, near Grand Lake, in 2018.
