The play began when junior defender Lance Mitchell gained possession by wiping out Panthers forward Gabe Crowley on a potential breakaway at the opposite end. It held up as the winner, as the Wolverines wrapped up regular-season work blanking M-CHS 2-0.

“It means a lot, being a senior,” Larson said. “I just don’t know what to say right now – it’s an emotional night.”

<img decoding="async" src="https://imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com/?uuid=1d84c0f8-68e9-56ed-bfeb-a89d10feaad3&function=cover&type=preview&source=false&width=2000" width="2000" height="1333" alt="Montezuma-Cortez junior Raul Soto, right, controls the ball at a safe distance away from Bayfield's Gavin Larson during 3A Southwestern action Tuesday at BHS.
