A&C Farm and Pet has opened at 1630 E. Main St. in downtown Cortez.<\/p>\n

The store officially opened Nov. 1, but will wait for a grand opening when back-ordered sign, shelves and additional inventory arrive.<\/p>\n

A&C Farm and Pet offers food and supplies for pets, along with livestock feed and supplies, and will sell live animals such as rabbits and chicks. They may even eventually offer dogs and cats on a limited basis, but that decision is still in the works.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe primary focus is pet supplies and feed; the secondary focus is on livestock feed and supplies,\u201d owner Clayton Archer said.<\/p>\n

Archer said most of the feed that will be found in the store will come from A&C Milling in Montezuma County.<\/p>\n

Archer hopes the Main Street store brings additional exposure to their business and make shopping more convenience for customers in town.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost of the county doesn\u2019t know we\u2019re here,\u201d Archer said, laughing. \u201cThe idea was to really get the word out there. A lot of people come to Cortez to do their monthly shopping, and they come from hundreds of miles away sometimes, and they don\u2019t always drive by us on the highway here north of town.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re trying to give the option to those people to have something right on Main Street to help service people\u2019s needs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In addition to having two locations and offering a wide variety of products, feed and animals to the community, Archer said they put an emphasis on providing local products.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur feed that we make on the livestock side is almost entirely locally grown grain,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re really supporting the farmers here. We do everything as locally as possible in everything we do.\u201d<\/p>\n
