(Photo by Southwest Health System)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Southwest Health System<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>Southwest Health System announced Thursday that CEO Jeanine Gentry resigned Feb. 1 after a little more than a year on the job.<\/p>\n<p>SHS is the operating arm of Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez. Gentry served as CEO since January 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The SHS Board of Directors, along with Community Hospital Consulting, confirmed that David Faulkner will serve as interim CEO beginning Feb. 2, according to a news release.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=dfa4466f-3572-5bc0-b952-b1e15f44266f&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"288\" height=\"351\" alt=\"David Faulkner\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">David Faulkner<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>\u201cFaulkner has decades of executive health care experience and insight across operations, strategic planning, practice management, contract negotiations, and revenue enhancement,\u201d the release states.<\/p>\n<p>SHS board chair Shirley Jones stated in the release that \u201cwe wholeheartedly welcome David to our hospital and community. We are committed to our mission, to provide the highest quality health care to our community by bringing excellence, value and service together to promote, improve and restore health.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Faulkner most recently served as Interim CEO for Montrose Regional Health, Montrose for nearly a year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is a seasoned CEO with nearly 30 years of experience improving hospital operations and performance through a broad base of skills and a commitment to build consensus with all team members, from physicians and employees, to Board and community members,\u201d the news release states.<\/p>\n<p>Faulkner is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.<\/p>\n<p>He graduated from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois with a bachelor of science in health care management and earned a Master of Science degree in health services management from the University of Missouri-Columbia.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=aaa92e20-2280-5a00-8df0-14c2318d19ed&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"720\" height=\"631\" alt=\"Jeanine Gentry is the new permanent CEO for Southwest Memorial Hospital. (Jim Mimiaga\/The Journal)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Details of Gentry\u2019s resignation were not available.<\/p>\n<p>She provided a statement to <em id=\"emphasis-0f901767ed2c1d635a998f9f17eb39f5\">The Journal,<\/em> on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy heart is broken leaving SHS and this community. I had hoped to stay for a very long time. Unfortunately circumstances will not allow that. I will miss everyone deeply,\u201d Gentry said.<\/p>\n<p>Montezuma County Hospital District board chair Dean Mathews said Gentry\u2019s resignation came as a surprise, and he found out about it Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just as surprised as most people were,\u201d Mathews said.<\/p>\n<p>He reached out to SHS board members about the resignation but has not heard back. MCHD acts as the landlord of the hospital campus and is not in charge of operations and does not hire or manage staff at Southwest Memorial.<\/p>\n<p>The turnover of CEOs has been a concern for the MCHD board Mathews said, and \u201cwe will be asking questions about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During an SHS meeting last week, \u201cnothing seemed amiss,\u201d he said.
