(Jim Mimiaga\/The Journal)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>A popular coffee house location in Cortez has been revived by new owners.<\/p>\n<p>The Cortez Coffeehouse and Eatery at 318 E. Main St. opened in November by owners Kellie Power and her nephew and baker Gaven Cooper.<\/p>\n<p>The two remodeled the quaint two-story commercial space, which was formerly the Spruce Tree and Bean Tree coffee shops, and a candy store.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve always loved this building. We wanted to bring back a community gathering place that people said they missed,\u201d Power said. \u201cWe\u2019ve had a really positive response.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The shop serves up a variety of coffee products, smoothies and other drinks. The food menu includes bagel breakfast sandwiches, panini, and scones, muffins, cakes and cookies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe panini are crispy and delicious,\u201d Power said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the baked goods are made from scratch,\u201d Cooper said. \u201cThey are made fresh daily, and I rotate the variety so there is always something different.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Coffee is sourced from Desert Sun Coffee Roasters, out of Durango.<\/p>\n<p>The Cortez Coffee House and Eatery is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Monday through Saturday.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=2a8aedc8-004f-52a2-ba90-a659a11e961b&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"720\" height=\"453\" alt=\"The new Cortez Coffee House and Eatery has an inviting, comfortable interior. Featured artists are Matt Josef and Mike Znerold.<\/p>\n<p>A standup bar is planned to add more space for people to get some work done while sipping a latte and having a bite to eat. There is also a play area for children and board games.<\/p>\n<p>In the spring, the back patio will be remodeled for additional seating and outdoor ambience, Power said. The building has Wi-Fi access.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith all the remote workers nowadays, Cortez needs a sit-down coffee shop. This is a great location,\u201d Powers said.<\/p>\n<p>The place has been bustling with friend get-togethers and co-workers meeting about projects, she said.
