The Farmington Police Department released a statement March 30 that they have identified two persons of interest in the homicide that took place in the south parking lot of Animas Valley Mall on March 23.<\/p>\n

The two people are being held on unrelated charges, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, according to FPD spokeswoman Shanice Gonzales.<\/p>\n

No further information was available. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Detective Rock at (505) 599-1005.<\/p>\n

Farmington Police Department released the identity of Ariana Rosas as the person who was killed in the March 23 shooting in the Animas Valley Mall parking lot in Farmington.<\/p>\n

Rosas, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Gonzales.<\/p>\n

A second male victim was transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center and was reported to be in stable condition. His name was withheld as the investigation continued.<\/p>\n

Gonzales said the shooting occurred on the south side of the mall near English Road.<\/p>\n

Gonzales said she received a phone call about the shooting at 11:20 a.m., about 20 minutes after the shooting occurred.<\/p>\n

Because of the active investigation, residents were asked to avoid the area surrounding the mall.<\/p>\n

Piedra Vista High School was advised to enter lockdown at 11:15 a.m. as a safety measure, according to a notification sent to parents and guardians. The lockdown was lifted at 11:30 a.m., and a second notification from the school stated that staff would continue \u201cto be alert and diligent to help keep our entire campus safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

San Juan College identified Rosas as a freshman majoring in welding and a graduate of Vista Nueva High School in an email Monday. The college expressed condolences to Rosas\u2019 family and offered counseling services for students and employees.<\/p>\n

A candlelight vigil will be held for Rosas at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 3, in the San Juan College Learning Commons Plaza. Candles will be provided. The college has also offered counseling services for students and staff.<\/p>\n
